Merci Marseille
07.12.2006

Just got back from Marseille. What a trip! First of all, thanx a ton to El Gato Fred, Dom, Claude and Jean, you guys just rule!

Though the weather the first days wasn’t all too good, raining on and off, we still had a great time skating various spots around Marseille, shooting many photos. La Caverne up the mountains, which was built by Medhi Sala and friends, sure is a spot you should visit some time. An old building full of grafittis, broken ceilings, trash everywhere, a few burnt cars… gives this place it’s charm and atmosphere.
The Mad Pig Bowl in a secret location near Marseille is one of the gnarliest bowls I’ve ever seen, about 4 feet (more than 1 meter) of vert, very deep and no flat. According to the locals I’ve been the second German to ever even just see this bowl. During the 90s many Pros went there (Alba, Grosso, Nash, Glifberg, Duncan, etc) but never were allowed to shoot photos. There are only a very few photos existing of this 25 year old bowl, so I felt quite honoured to be allowed to shoot photos.
Monday the weather got a bit better, and we went back to skating Marseille. Missed our flight at night and had to stay a day longer. Lucky us, cause Tuesday the weather was perfect. I wished we could have stayed even longer… Oh well, I’ll be back. Definitely!

Cheeky Chicks
23.11.2006

How cool you think it is if someone makes you think they are your friend and wanna have you walk by their side, but then suddenly slap you in the face and basicly tell you you’re an asshole (just pretty much because you’re not fine with them expecting you to pay their travels) and then take all of your ideas and sell them as their own in public?!

Yup, that’s why I usually prefer hanging with guys. They are not as insidous as girls.

Off to Marseille next week.

Cheers

November Notes
20.11.2006

To catch up with the last post, Miss Swan (yea, it is a girl!) moved to the Zoo and seems to like her new home. Thing I didn’t know, the new lake is actually inside the Zoo, meaning, you have to pay entrance to visit both boat and swan. The entrance fee is 12 Euros! Smart move, Zoo Boss Mister Adler!

Bram Waterman was part of stunt on dutch television. The stunt included a skateboard, a 40×40cm sized 2,5 meter high platform and a car at the speed of 70km/h. If you recieve dutch TV Channel Ned1, watch out for it…

If all goes well I’ll be spending the whole winter in the mountains, about 1500 meters above sealevel, with loads of slopes up to 3500 meters. Sounds good, huh? Hell yea!

Moving
02.11.2006

So today is my birthday and I actually woke up with sunshine outside. Very rare!
Went to the lake again and found both boat and black swan surrounded by loads of boats filled with TV Teams and Photographers. I guess today was the first step of moving the couple towards the zoo.
Got some more shots, of course.

True Love
29.10.2006

I assume you’ve heard about the most tragic love story that has been going on at the lake Aasee in Muenster since May this year?
If not, here’s what happened:
Around May this year a black swan appeared at the lake, deeply falling in love with another swan. Now, that doesn’t sound too original, does it? Well, not just that the chosen one is white, it is also a lot taller than our little black swan. But the fact that’s most important… the big white swan is actually a pedal boat.
So, since May “Black Peter” (that’s how the black swan got called) spent his time swimming circles around the boat, not leaving it for more than a few meters, guarding and defending his loved one.
Meanwhile, TV and Radio Stations and newspapers from all over the world came to witness Muensters most exceptional pair of lovers and at the same time most tragic romance. Shops in Muenster sell swan souveniers.
And still, until today the black swan is there. The interesting thing is that this kind of swan usually lives in Australia, not in Europe. This certain kind usually doesn’t live with any other kind.
And now the winter is coming, it’s getting colder and sooner or later the lake will freeze. The boat rental at the lake normally stops renting in October but for the swan they keep the pedal boat out on the lake, they even denied to rent it out. For the wintertime they will move the boat over to the other side of the lake which meets the zoo and try to give both the black swan and his chosen one a new home at a little lake at the zoo.

Today I went to see the swan myself and found him quite far from the pedal boat sitting on the stairs.

World Wide?

Found this thing on the web. I thought I have been traveling a lot in my life so far, about 20 countries in this world. But on that map it looks like nothing worth mentioning. Man I gotta work on that…

BowlBash Bombs
19.10.2006

Again, have been too lazy to write for a while, but last weekend is screaming for some coverage on here.
This year I have been traveling with the BowlBash crew from Malmoe/Sweden, Hamburg/Germany, Burnley/UK to Algorta/Spain to collect the 20 first qualifiers for the grand finals that went down at the brand new Area51 Skatepark in the Netherlands last weekend.
Saturday the last qualification hit the Mu Bowl with 30 competitors, giving just a slight impression on what the finals would be like, throwing 10 more qualifiers straight into the finals on Sunday.
Not to forget the original dutch dinner Bram and Mama Moest organized that night, including some stripper girls that distracted the guys from eating well. Hey, next time hire a guy as well please!
The grand finals ended in a crazy chaos jam having Andy Scott (1st), Ivan Rivado (2nd), Alain Goikoetxea (3rd), John Magnusson (4th) and Anders Tellen (5th) battling out the top spots busting tricks all over the Mu Bowl, leaving you dizzy not knowing where to look.
Congrats guys and thanx for such an amazing show!
Hope to see all of you again next year!
For me it was 5 days of less than little sleep, a lot of work and even more fun. Got totally run over by John in one of his runs, sorry for bein in your way and thanx for the drink at night ;)
Actually, there have been no serious crashes this time, looking back at last years final when The Roost took down Ivan Rivado in the deep end and Manuel Palacios broke his wrist. The only thing I saw was Erwin slamming into Marc Haziza in a practice round that left Marc with a nice swellbow, but all in all not too bad.

Anyhow, for photos check the galleries on Chris-Pics.com!

As for other stuff… my big 3 is coming closer and I still have no idea what I’m gonna do. Those of you who know me know that I’m always in to celebrate birthdays, as long as they’re not my own ones. I’m always gettin lazy when it comes to my own bdays, nevertheless somehow I’d like to do something nice this time.
If anyone knows about some happenings around the dates of Nov 1 to 5, events, contests, shows, parties or just some nice chill skate- or snowspot to hang out with a few nice people, let me know. Preferably not in Germany!

Over and out.
